women hold up half the sky

...a quote by Mao Tse Tung apparently.

Did there used to be a women's movement called 'feminism'? I seem to remember something of the kind in the 1960's and '70's where women campaigned for equal pay and conditions and to be considered as equal in intellect and abilities as men - or did I dream it?

The BBC sports personality of the year is a men only event.   I am not keen on sports but even I am aware that there are some world class sportswomen in this country at the moment.

In all sorts of ways we seem to have plunged back to the 1950's. I can't be the only person who is not happy about this.
